Core Crown Point

As the new year rolled around, I knew I needed to make some changes to my fitness routine. After spending the last few years being lazier to then going back to weight lifting over the past two months… I started to feel like my body was craving something different. I wanted a workout that would complement my lifting while also challenging my body in new ways. After doing a little research, I decided I was ready to explore barre classes—and that’s when fate stepped in.

A good friend of mine, Mandy, happened to mention that she had been going to Pilates classes at Core Crown Point. She was loving it, and because we share similar fitness goals, she encouraged me to join her for a beginners’ class. So, in the spirit of trying something new, I thought, “Why not?” Little did I know, this would be the start of a fitness journey that would reshape the way I think about workouts.

A Welcoming Environment for All Fitness Levels

Core Crown Point isn’t just a Pilates studio—it’s a full-on fitness hub with a variety of classes designed to build strength, flexibility, and muscle tone. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or a beginner, there’s something here for everyone. Their focus on community, rather than competition, creates an environment where you can push yourself without feeling overwhelmed. It’s all about progress and self-improvement.

The first class I tried was an introductory Pilates session. I thought it was great, but admittedly, it was a little easier than I expected. Still, it got me hooked. Mandy, always the motivator, suggested I try the Tuesday morning class with Kelly, the owner of Core, to really feel the burn. So, I did, and I was absolutely blown away.

A Full-Body Workout That Leaves You Feeling Strong

I had no idea what I was in for. Kelly’s Pilates class was an entirely different experience. It was challenging, but in the best way possible. The class wasn’t just about sculpting your core (though it certainly targets those muscles); it was a full-body workout that incorporated your arms, legs, and of course, that all-important core. By the end of the session, my body was shaking in the best way, and I felt muscles I didn’t even know I had.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about a workout that challenges you physically, while also giving you that mind-body connection. Pilates isn’t just about pushing your body—it’s about understanding it, controlling it, and building a sense of strength that stays with you long after the class ends.

And here’s the best part: Even though the class was challenging, it wasn’t about comparing myself to others. There were people of all fitness levels, and Kelly did a great job of offering modifications to make the moves accessible, yet effective.

Building Muscle and Boosting Heart Health

One of the main reasons I was drawn to Pilates (and eventually barre, which they also offer) was to complement my weight lifting. While lifting helps to build strength, Pilates targets smaller stabilizing muscles and enhances flexibility, which is essential for overall functional fitness. Plus, Pilates helps improve posture, mobility, and balance—all things that can enhance your lifting sessions.

The workouts at Core Crown Point are designed to get your heart rate up while simultaneously building muscle. It’s not just about feeling sore after a class (though, yes, that does happen)—it’s about feeling stronger and more connected to your body with each session.

Located in the Historic Crown Point Courthouse

The atmosphere at Core Crown Point is equally as impressive as the workouts themselves. The studio is located in the iconic Historic Crown Point Courthouse Building, and the space has such a welcoming, energizing vibe. Whether you’re there for Pilates, barre, or one of their many other class offerings, the studio’s charm adds a special touch to the experience. There’s something about working out in a space with so much history and character that makes it feel even more rewarding.

Why I Recommend Core Crown Point

If you’re someone who’s tired of the typical, competitive gym environment, Core Crown Point offers something refreshing. There’s no judgment here—just people working toward their own personal fitness goals. Whether you’re interested in Pilates, barre, or any of the other classes they offer, you’ll find a welcoming community and an instructor who genuinely cares about your progress.

Personally, I’ve already noticed a difference in my body. I’m stronger, more flexible, and I feel more in tune with my muscles, which helps me get more out of my weight lifting sessions throughout the week. And as I mentioned before, even on days when I struggle with certain moves, I still feel accomplished and proud of my progress. That’s the beauty of Pilates—it’s not about perfection; it’s about continuous improvement.

If you're looking for a workout that will help you build strength, get your heart pumping, and integrate seamlessly into your existing routine, I highly recommend giving Core Crown Point a try. Based on my experience so far, I know I’ll be sticking with it.
